FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some FAQ’s and other tidbits of knowledge
Q: I only use the dealer for my maintenance. Does it void my warranty to take it elsewhere?
A: It can if the repair shop you use doesn’t use proper parts and procedures. We only use the finest quality parts and factory repair/service procedures so your FACTORY WARRANTY is never in jeopardy. Come by with your brand new car for its first oil change or your high miler for the same care and attention to detail.
Q: Do I need my timing belt changed?
A: Some vehicles have a rubber timing belt as opposed to a timing chain and if it breaks major engine repairs are often needed. Most Honda and Toyota products have a timing belt and it usually needs to be changed around 90 to 105,000 miles depending on the model and manufacturer.
Q: Shouldn’t I just go get a $99 brake job?
A: I try to steer my customers away from the large brake chain stores…usually the cheap price is a “come on” and so are the quality of parts used…and rarely is it EVER $99!
Q: I think my car just needs a tune-up.
A: This phrase is used way too often and typically if you ask for one, most places will sell you a bunch of stuff you don’t need. Most modern cars get their first tune-up after 100,000 miles. Regularly scheduled maintenance has taken its place and when done properly with proper parts/fluids can mean the difference between regular headaches and trouble free ownership.
Q: How often do I need maintenance?
A: Always read your owner’s manual for model specific guidelines. Have your oil changed and vehicle maintained at one place that you trust. The more you hop around the less people know you or your vehicle and that ends up costing you more.
Q: My A/C is out. Isn’t that expensive?
A: It certainly can be, but I have had customers wait extended periods of time without it saving up the money to repair it only to find out it was something minor. Always have your car checked out by someone you trust before you assume the worst.
Q: Can’t you just hook my car up to one of those diagnostic thingy’s?
A: Yes, there is such a device; however it’s limited to certain functions on your vehicle. We have the latest factory equipment to test your vehicle when necessary but most times it comes down to the skill of the technician and his experience and knowledge.
Q: My engine runs a little hot but I just add coolant and its ok for a while.
A: STOP! Always have the source of your coolant leak diagnosed. Eventually the coolant level can drop below the temp sensor and will not read overheat. Sudden vehicle death often occurs shortly thereafter.
Q: I like to use a place that’s by my house for a cheap oil change and maintenance. Isn’t that good enough?
A: Large chain stores don’t have the model specific training and experience of a specialist and often use the wrong fluids or parts putting your warranty and reliability at stake not to mention the all too often high pressure tactics most of people know too well.
